On-Ice Support Outside of Rostered Coaches
All rostered bench staff (Coaches, Trainers, Managers) for EHMHA teams are required to have
completed specific qualifications and checks in order to hold their positions. From time to
time,
coaches may look for assistance for on
-
ice help outside of their rostered bench staff. The below
provides policy and required procedure for their use.
Back-Up Trainers:
It is critical to have on
-
call, back
-
up trainers available at all times as it is mandator
y to have a
qualified trainer in attendance at all practices and games

The Head Coach is accountable to
ensure all trainers used are qualified to fulfil the role.
Alternate trainers need to fill out a
volunteer
form
.

For trainers to be listed on a game sheet they must be listed on an OMHA-
approved
team roster for that season and have the trainer specific qualifications.
The opposing
team's trainer can be used as the trainer for both teams should you not have one
available.
They need to be requested and added to the game sheet. They are
not
allowed to refuse your request.
Third

Party Development Resources:
If you would like to enlist third
-
party development resources for practices, the entire list below
must be met BEFORE they can step on the ice with the team:
•
The costs have been approve
d by all parents as part of the team budget procedure
•
They have their own insurance coverage and police check procedures in place
•
They are affiliated with Hockey Canada
•
Instructors are 4 years of age or older than the players on the team
•
You have notified
the Technical Director

with the name of the
company or individual, how and what they are being used for, and the associated costs
as approved by parents

Ice Helpers:
If you would like to use on

ice helpers for practices, the entire list below must be met and
approved by the Registrar (

) BEFORE they can step on the ice with the team:
•
Be 4 years of age older than the players on the ice
•
Be a member in good standing of EHMHA
•
Have completed Speak Out or
Respect in Sport
-
Activity Leader
and have acknowledged
Rowan’s Law
(18 years of age and older)
•
Have a clean
vulnerable sector police check
(VSC) completed within the past 3 years (
18 years of age and older)
•
The on
-
ice helper needs to fill out a
volunteer form
.
