Mike Paquette – U18BB Head Coach
We're happy to welcome Mike back to the bench for the U18 team. Mike is a dedicated leader both on and off the ice, bringing decades of experience and a passion for developing athletes. As the head coach of the U18BB team, Mike focuses on building strong, cohesive teams while preparing players for success in hockey and beyond.
A former goaltender throughout his own minor hockey career, Mike developed a unique perspective on the game, seeing plays unfold from the net and analyzing the full ice in real-time. This view gave him an understanding of positioning, teamwork, and anticipation that shapes his coaching today. He helps players see the bigger picture, read plays effectively, and make smarter decisions, giving his teams an edge in both offensive and defensive play.
His coaching career began at just 15 years old, and since moving to Erin in 2009, he has been actively involved in the local hockey community, coaching his two sons and multiple teams over the years. His proudest moments include sharing the ice with his sons and leading the U18BB team to a Red Hat championship with a phenomenal group of young men.
For Mike, hockey is about more than just the game—it’s about lifelong friendships, teamwork, and personal growth. He values players who are coachable and committed to being part of a team, believing that those qualities, more than skill alone, make a great hockey player.
Mike is also a strong advocate for community involvement, ensuring that his teams give back through volunteer efforts. His leadership fosters a team culture built on accountability, hard work, and respect.
When asked which NHL player he’d love to coach as a kid, Mike’s choice is Sidney Crosby, recognizing his passion and relentless drive to improve. His message to all his players is this: "Don’t leave anything in the tank. Have no regrets when you leave the rink."
With his goaltender’s perspective on the game, years of coaching experience, and commitment to player development, Coach Mike is an invaluable part of the Erin hockey program.
